Beth Jonas MD

Dr. Beth L. Jonas is the Reeves Foundation Distinguished Professor of Medicine, and Chief of the Division of Rheumatology, Allergy, and Immunology at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. She received her medical degree at SUNY, Upstate Medical Center and completed her residency in Internal Medicine at The George Washington University, where she also served as Chief Resident. Dr. Jonas completed fellowship training in Rheumatology at Emory University, Atlanta, GA.

Dr. Jonas serves as the Chair of the ACR Committee on Training and Workforce and has served as co-chair of the ACR In-Training Examination Taskforce. She serves on the board of the Rheumatology Research Foundation as well as the RRF Scientific Advisory Committee.

A recipient of a 2015 Rheumatology Research Foundation Clinician Scholar Educator Award, Dr. Jonas has developed a novel curriculum in Rheumatology in the Foundation Phase at UNC. Dr. Jonas is a clinician educator and has an active rheumatology practice, where she sees patients with a wide spectrum of inflammatory rheumatic disorders. She teaches rheumatology to medical students, residents, and fellows and is actively involved in curricular development to train both physicians and advance practice providers in rheumatology. Dr. Jonas is a founding member of the Carolinas Fellows Collaborative (CFC), a group of program directors from the Carolinas who work to enhance the education of their collective trainees. Dr. Jonas was honored as the ACR Distinguished Program Director in 2015.
