Elaine Husni MD,MPH

M. Elaine Husni, MD, MPH, is Vice Chair, and Director, Arthritis and Musculoskeletal Center within the Department of Rheumatic and Immunologic Diseases.  She is an Assistant Professor at the Cleveland Clinic Lerner College of Medicine of CWRU. She is the inaugural endowed chair holder of the Scholtz Chair of Functional Medicine Translational Research.

Dr. Husni joined the Clinic in 2005 following a faculty appointment at Harvard Medical School, Brigham and Women's Hospital. She completed her internship and residency at the Beth Israel Deaconess Hospital at Harvard Medical School, and Rheumatology fellowship at the Brigham and Women's Hospital. Dr. Husni received her MD and MPH degrees at Boston University School of Medicine.

Dr. Husni is very active in both patient care and clinical/translational research focused on examining health outcomes and novel therapeutics for patients with Rheumatoid arthritis (RA), Psoriatic arthritis, Ankylosing spondylitis, and Osteoarthritis.  She is involved with early translational studies focusing on mechanisms related accelerated atherosclerosis to large scale clinical trials RA and OA. Her research work has been funded by the NIH, American College of Rheumatology, National Psoriasis Foundation, and Arthritis National Research Foundation.  

She is an active member of the American College of Rheumatology (past member of the publications committee), executive member of GRAPPA (Group for Research and Assessment of Psoriasis and Psoriatic Arthritis), Board of Director for the National Psoriasis Foundation, Vice Chair, committee on Healthcare Systems and Providers for the OAAA (Osteoarthritis Action Alliance) and on the medical and scientific committee for the Arthritis Foundation of the Northeastern Ohio Chapter.

Dr. Husni has been an invited lecturer at both national and international meetings related to Psoriatic diseases and Spondyloarthritis as well as authored numerous publications as original research, reviews and book chapters.  She has had the opportunity to mentor both rheumatology and orthopedic research trainees and this has been one of her most rewarding experiences.
