Dr. Joseph Merola MD MMSc

Professor and Chair of the Department of Dermatology, UT Southwestern

Joseph F Merola, MD, MMSc, FAAD, FACR, is an Associate Professor in the Department of Dermatology and the Department of Medicine’s Division of Rheumatology at Harvard Medical School and holds board certifications in dermatology, internal medicine, and rheumatology. At Harvard, Dr. Merola serves as Vice Chair and Director of the Clinical Unit for Research Innovation and Trials (CUReIT), Director of the Center for Skin and Related Musculoskeletal Diseases, and Associate Director for the Harvard Combined Internal Medicine-Dermatology Residency Training Program at Brigham and Women’s Hospital (BWH) in Boston, MA. He earned his medical degree at New York University (NYU) and attained his Master of Medical Sciences degree at Harvard Medical School. Dr. Merola completed his internal medicine internship at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania, a dermatology residency at NYU, and an internal medicine residency and rheumatology fellowship at BWH. He is on the board of the National Psoriasis Foundation, the International Dermatology Outcome Measures Group, and the Lupus Foundation of America. Additionally, Dr. Merola is the Founding President and on the board of the Psoriasis and Psoriatic Arthritis Clinics Multicenter Advancement Network Consortium (PPACMAN) and is a member of the Group for Research and Assessment of Psoriasis and Psoriatic Arthritis (GRAPPA) Steering Committee.
