Kevin D. Deane, MD/PhD. Dr. Deane is a Rheumatologist and Professor of Medicine at the University of Colorado. His research interests are in understanding how rheumatoid arthritis (RA) develops, and especially the biology of RA prior to the onset of the first swollen joint – a period that can be termed ‘pre-RA’. In addition, he is interested in identifying ways to prevent future RA, and as part of these efforts he is the principal investigator on the NIH-sponsored StopRA study which is evaluating the role of hydroxychloroquine to prevent or delay the onset of arthritis in individuals who have high-risk autoantibody biomarkers for future RA.
